2015 Draft Profile - Kris Dunn

Strengths
Kris Dunn has been one of the more quicker rising players in the draft in recent weeks. Dunn checks off pretty much every box that teams look for in point guards these days.

Dunn has great size, speed, and athleticism for the point guard position. He is also an excellent scorer capable of getting his shot off from anywhere on the floor and is a willing passer who has improved his assist numbers thanks to his great court vision.

Defensively, Dunn is one of the best in the nation at racking up steals. His lateral quickness allows him to stay in front of most guards and as long as he is locked in on that end, should be more than able to hold his own at the next level.

Weaknesses
While he has some great point guard skills, Dunn is still more of a scorer than a pure point guard, leading some to wonder if he can play the position at the NBA level as he doesn’t have the size to play the two.

He also turns the ball over far more than scouts would like him to and his shot selection will need to improve so he can be more efficient. Part of that is likely due to his role on Providence so a lesser role could possibly help those things.

His range still needs to improve as his three-point shot is inconsistent. If he can’t be at least a decent shooter at the NBA-level it could severely hinder his ability to get to the rim on a regular basis.

NBA Player Comparison
A strong, tough, score-first guard who has better passing ability than people realize, Dunn’s best case scenario would be someone like Kyle Lowry. Like Dunn, Lowry is only an average shooter, but Lowry’s ability to get to the basket and finish among big men makes up for it and Dunn will have to be able to do the same thing.

Dunn has been one of the biggest risers on most draft boards recently, going from a late first-rounder to the middle of the first. Dunn has the capability to be one of the steals outside of the lottery.
