2016 Draft Profile - Isaiah Briscoe
Strengths: In an era where point guards are getting bigger and stronger, Isaiah Briscoe fits right in. He is a bull of a point guard with a remarkable 6’9 wingspan in addition to his 216-pound frame that allows him to bully most small guards. He is an excellent ball-handler who uses his size to get into the paint at will. Briscoe’s passing is continuing to develop, but he is becoming very adept at finding cutters and shooters once he gets into the paint. He is also great at drawing fouls in the paint.
Defensively Briscoe strength and wingspan give him the ability to guard both guard spots, similar to someone like Marcus Smart.
Weaknesses: Offensively, Briscoe is very limited especially when it comes to his shooting. He is extremely inconsistent from three-point range and has even struggled with mid-range jumpers and floaters as well.
While he is physically imposing with his size and strength, he is not an extremely quick or explosive guard. In fact he might be better off guarding shooting guards as he may not have the quickness to keep quick point guards in front of him.
He also has some mental lapses at times, especially on defense where he can commit some bad fouls at times or lose track of his man off the ball.
