Malik Pope
Ht/Wt: 6'10" / 205 lbs
Position: SF
Team: San Diego St.
Class: Sophomore

2016 Draft Profile - Malik Pope

Strengths: When talking strictly potential, Malik Pope is arguably one of the five top prospects of this class. Very few players possess the combination of size, length, and skill that Pope does and he will get the opportunity to show everyone what he can do as a sophomore.

Pope has excellent size and length for the position and his wingspan is in elite territory for small forwards. He is an extremely athletic player who can leap out of the building and run faster than most guards.

Pope isn’t all physical tools, however, as he is an excellent ball handler for his size, crashes the boards very well, and can score in a variety of ways with range out to the three-point line.

Weaknesses: Pope will undoubtedly need to get stronger. He still has a thin frame and that will hurt him on both ends of the floor. He can get pushed around by bigger small forwards on defense, and can struggle finishing through contact on offense.

The biggest weakness for Pope, however, is his injury history. He’s had two severe leg injuries and has spent far more time rehabbing as opposed to developing his game.

San Diego State brought him back very slowly during his freshman season, but he should be 100 percent for his second year. If he can stay healthy and show off his skills, Pope could wind up as high as the top-5.
