2016 Draft Profile - Nigel Hayes
Strengths: Nigel Hayes has drawn some comparisons to Draymond Green as an undersized power forward with the length and strength to bang down low, but enough perimeter skills to cause matchup problems.Hayes is a good scorer around the rim despite his lack of height, but also has stretched his range out to the three-point line. He is a high IQ player who sees the floor well and is a good passer.
Defensively, he is capable both down low and on the perimeter. His excellent length allows him to challenge shots from taller players down low and come up with steals. He also has the foot speed to keep up with players on the perimeter and some scouts even think he can play small forward full-time.
Weaknesses: Hayes’ lack of size is still concerning as he wouldn’t seem to have the height to play power forward full-time. While he compares favorably to Draymond Green, it doesn’t necessarily mean he can actually do what Green has done in the NBA.
On the court, Hayes will have to improve his rebounding. He is a decent rebounder, but he could stand to grab a couple more per night if he is playing power forward full-time.
His shooting will also need to be more consistent in order for him to be more of an offensive threat. He is capable, but not necessarily to the point where teams are afraid to leave him open outside. He could wind up being a huge riser if he shows these improvements during his junior season.
