Julius Randle
Ht/Wt: 6' 9" / 250 lbs
Position: PF
Team: Kentucky
Class: Freshman

2014 Draft Profile - Julius Randle

Strengths:
Built like an ox, Randle is a big, physical low post presence. He will bully a defender all the way from 10 feet out until he get’s an easy lay up due to his strength. When contact is given at the rim, Randle can finish through it easily. Due to his frame and craftiness, he can get a shot off against any defender at any time and not really worry about getting blocked.

When facing up to the rim, Randle can put it on the ground as well as shoot it from 12 feet. Although he played a lot of “bully ball”, has no trouble of going by a defender off the bounce. Not a superior athlete in terms of quickness or athleticism but not terrible for his size.

Beast on both ends in terms of rebounding. Goes after every lose ball and an absolute winner. Demands for the ball when there is a mismatch but also not greedy and willing to find the open man.

Weaknesses:
Lefty dominant big man who will be forced to use his off hand at the next level. A bit undersized for the power forward spot and lacks an ideal wingspan. NBA pros may be just as physical and strong, will he be able to adapt? A lot really hinges on Randle being able to develop a right hand because teams will overplay him nightly.

On the defensive end Randle needs to get a bit quicker to guard explosive 4’s. Lot of athletes at the position means he’s going to hand to develop more range on the jumper and quicker feet. Most of his game is below the rim, while most of the NBA is above it.

Can settle for the jump shot too much at times. Needs to be in the right system that will give him touches on a nightly basis or will start thinking he’s a perimeter big man.

Stats:
PPG: 15.0 RBG: 10.5 APG: 1.4 SPG: 0.5 BPG: 0.8 FG%: 50.0 FT%: 70.6 3PT%: 16.7

Julius Randle is what an NBA prospect looks like. A chiseled, explosive, 6' 9", 250 pounds. He has the ideal size of a PF, with athleticism of SF. His transition to NBA game might be the easiest because of size, skill, athleticism. Randle will be a good rebounder right away and blossom into one of the league's best.

Being a No.2 option scorer should come fairly easy. He has the strength to finish in traffic, runs well enough to score in transition and has a nice, improving stroke with some range. He is best from mid range where he can explode past his defender. Randle can get to the line consistently where he is efficient. He might need to decide to work on developing his post game or his range, as right now he is in between which may lead to games where he struggles to score if hes not getting easy transition buckets. Also needs to work on his offhand. Doesn't have the length to be dynamic defender and may struggle offensively when he cant take his man off a bounce.

There is a plethora of NBA guys that can earn a comparison. Terrance Jones, Blake Griffin, Beasley to name a few. In 2013 Randle woulda been the #1 pick without blinking an eye. He looks like a future All Star.
