2008 Draft Profile - Jerryd Bayless

Jerryd Bayless was the most hyped player ever out of an Arizona high school. He received all the accolades you can in high school. Jerryd was named a McDonald's All-American, and was named Arizona high school player of the year both as a junior, and a senior. He played a total of 100 games at St. Mary's high school in Phoenix, and in those 100 games he was held to single digits in scoring only four times Jerryd also averaged 28.3 points per game over those 100 games. In his class of 2007 he was ranked number nine overall, and the number two shooting guard, by both scout.com, and rival.com.

Jerryd decided to stay near home, and go to powerhouse University of Arizona. He was immediately named to the Foxsports.com Preseason All-American as a fifth team member, and he hasn't even played a college game yet. At this time Jerryd has played eight games at U of A, and has scored more then 14 points every game. In fact, he is averaging 19.9 points, with 3.5 rebounds, and 4.9 assists.

Jerryd has a sweet shooting stroke. It is evident with his percentages. He is shooting 48.4 percent from the floor, including 45.7 percent from behind the arch. He also shoots well from the line at 82.3 percent. Other strengths of his game include; strength, high I.Q., and his team first attitude.

Jerryd has two very strong weaknesses. One is, at 6'3", and 193 he may not be able to be a shooting guard at the next level, and his point guard tools need some work. I believe that his defense needs to be sharper, and more consistent.

At this point he would be a late first round pick, but with practice and seasoning, he could be a first ten pick.
