Position: C
Team: Ohio State
Class: Freshman

2009 Draft Profile - BJ Mullens

BJ Mullens is an athletic seven-footer with speed that can catch and shoot as good as any big man in the 2009 Draft. His concerns lie in his lack of ability to “create” his own shot, as his ball handling is very average for a big man.

While BJ Mullens had a under achieving freshman year, he’s the 3rd “one and done” center from Ohio State. Mullens lack of production mainly came from not getting as many opportunities to make plays this past season for Ohio State. The Buckeyes lacked a true point guard in 2008 which not only hurt Mullens production but the 2008 season was one for Buckeye fans to soon forget.

Despite a below average season for Ohio State, true freshman Mullens shot 59.7% from the field which was second for NCAA centers nationwide.

With hard work, Mullens has real potential to earn significant playing time off the bench as a rookie. As with every year, there are NBA teams looking to gain size in the middle.

Look for Mullens to be drafted mid to late 1st round by the Atlanta Hawks, Utah Jazz, Philadelphia 76ers, New Orleans Hornets, and Minnesota Timberwolves.
