Darren Collison
Ht/Wt: 6-1 / 165 lbs
Position: PG
Team: UCLA
Class: Senior

2009 Draft Profile - Darren Collison

Great quickness, and long arms make him ideal on ball defensive specialist. Plays hard both ends of floor the entire game and has improved shooting each year while playing 4 years at a winning program. Although quickness allows him to create and leads to most of his buckets, he has tendency to try and do too much and turn the ball over. He will enter league with great experience, leadership and above average quickness. Needs to get quicker release on shot, control turnovers and add strength. Fits in the NBA as a backup PG and defensive specialist.

NBA comparison: Lindsey Hunter
Draft Profile provided by: Tom Patterson

Strengths: Excellent free throw shooter. Has a good feel for the game and is a clutch player, good 3 point shooter and has a high basketball IQ. He has very good court vision and is good in transistion. Excellent on ball defender and applies a lot of pressure. Very fast and very efficient player.

Weakness: Needs to get stronger, this causes trouble against bigger guards. Some examples were the likes of Derrick Rose, Daniel Hackett and Scottie Reynolds. Has trouble creating his own shot and needs to work on his ballhandling.

2008 Draft Profile

Collison is likely the 3rd best PG in the draft. His height is just ok (6’1”) and will need to gain some weight (165) at the next level. Has a great first step and could get into the lane in the NBA right now. He really needs to work on his form, as his outside shot doesn’t really play at the next level. Has a chance to be effective in the right system, but projects as a back-up, change of pace PG. Another product of UCLA.

2007 Draft Profile

A point guard with superior quickness and the ability to show incredible bursts of speed which enables him to turn the corner on a defensive player. Has excellent floor vision, shoots a good percentage from the perimeter. A tenacious on the ball defender, that uses his long arms to make up for his lack of size. Needs to improve his ball handling skills to be able to make the next step up to the NBA.
