2009 Draft Profile - DeJuan Blair
Whether DeJuan Blair is 6'8" as listed or 6'6" as speculated, he is certainly a beast on the boards and the blocks. His 12.2 rebounds per game led the big east this season and his absolutely dominating performance of Hasheem Thabeet on Feb. 19th proved to NBA scouts that he could use his Herculean strength and low center of gravity to compensate for his height. While me may lack height for the power forward position in the NBA, he doesn't lack size, as his 6'6"-6'8" frame carries anywhere between 260-290lbs and he possesses a 7'3" wingspan. The recent success of Boston Celtic big man Glen "Big Baby" Davis should help Blair's cause somewhat as they are similar players. Blair needs to take a note from Davis and begin to work on his jump shot this summer as being able to consistently knock down a 15 footer will be critical to his offensive development in the NBA.Blair like "Big Baby" needs to "stay away from the table" as he will be a more explosive and agile if he can keep his weight from ballooning. In college he became accustomed to simply overpowering his opponents en route to the basket, a tactic that will not be consistently effective against NBA centers. Blair needs to improve his low post repertoire, as a baby hook as well as an up and under would do him a world of good.
