2009 Draft Profile - Ty Lawson

Ty Lawson is a small guard that knows how to run a team at a fast pace. Was the ACC Player of the Year in 2009 and also lead the Tar Heels to the 2009 National Title. He is a great point guard that can distribute the ball, take the long range shot, and also go hard into the lane. He draws a lot of fouls, and is a high percentage free throw shooter. Lawson will make a great point in the NBA, especially for a team that likes to run a fast break offense. Should make an immediate impact, if not as a starter as a high minute bench player.
Draft Profile provided by Justin Sell

Ty Lawson is a blazing quick point guard that knows how to win and run a team, he’s good at pushing the tempo at the right times and would make a great NBA Run and Gun point guard. He gets to the Free Throw line a lot and shoots a high percentage. He’s excellent at navigating in traffic and dishing off the dribble and on the drive. He has a high basketball IQ and has the potential to be a great NBA point guard. He can handle the ball under pressure and make big plays. A good defender that is quick enough to get loose balls, deflections, and steals, but is a bit undersized at 5’11 175 lbs. He was the center of North Carolina’s NCAA Championship run, but will need to avoid a recent toe and foot injury. His shooting is improving rapidly along with his jumpshot.

2008 Draft Profile - Tywon Lawson

A little small at 5’11” and 175, but making good strides in a top program (UNC) with a chance to be a very good pass first point guard. He is great in the open court and can lead the fast break as well as anyone in college. He would be a great fit for a young athletic team like Seattle or the 76ers, the Pacers (backing up Tinsley) or Kings (after Bibby leaves). Ideally, a team would like to pair him in the backcourt with a big strong 2 guard to help cover for him defensively.

2007 Draft Profile

A super quick point guard that shows the ability to change speeds and penetrate into the lane, enabling him to finish around the basket. A quick defender that gets into the passing lanes, generating steals and easy fast break points. Is an undersized point guard with his height being closer to 5’11, needs to improve his mid range jump shot with consistency to make his penetrating skills effective at the next level.
