Patrick PattersonHt/Wt: 6-9 / 240 lbs
2010 Draft Profile - Pattrick PattersonStrengths: Patterson has a very mature post game due to the fact that he remained in college for another year, rather than the NBA. He operates his opponents with a high skill set, and is very effective drop stepping with either hand. Very adapt at squaring his man up from out of the post and blowing past him with a vicious dunk. A very smart and intelligent student as well as a player. It is very impressive watching Patterson play, to see the none stop motor that he posseses, a intangible that many young undeveloped players don't have. A scrappy hard nose player that NBA teams covet, because he never gives up on plays, and his a tough as nails competitor. This is one guy that I would want to go to basketball war with in the trenches. Solid mid range shooter, and extended three point shot, due to relentless work ethic to improve. Attacks the glass with the mentality that every rebound belongs to him. Solid right and left hand hook shot from the blocks. Very strong physique that can probably hold another 10-15 pounds.
Weaknesses: Patterson is only about 6'8 or 6'9, and might have trouble guarding bigger fours. Strong body seems to hinder his lateral movement, as he looks a little stiff at times. Doesn't really possess that star quality potential that the NBA looks for in a top 20 picks. Defers to less talented players on his team at times, when his coach needs him to be the go to man. Has to work on break down moves going to the hoop.
Outlook: Really benefited by returning to school for another season, and game looks a lot more polished. Patterson will have a productive career in the league as a glue guy. Big guys with his skills are very rare because the league is lacking energizer bunny type role players. Should be a mid to late first rounder, and can be a nice piece for playoff team. Not much upside, but like I say, the league needs glue guys with his type motor, and that is his biggest asset.
NBA Comparison: Horace Grant.
