2011 Draft Profile - Iman Shumpert

Supreme athlete with NBA size and strength. He can defend the 1 or 2 spot and will jump over people on the break. Has a great handle and NBA 3 pt range with a mid range stop and pop. Can play the 1, but may be beter suited at the 2. Either way, he has dominated big name palyers and schools already.

Could be a candidate to win the NBA dunk contest also. You won't see that from any other PG prospect in the country. A proven Windy City tough kid with a great work ethic. Should be a mid 1st rounder for sure.

An NBA level athlete here with experience playing multiple positions in a tough conference and at 6ft5 205lbs he has great length and bulk for an NBA guard. Shoots the ball well when open, and from the line and good mechanics. He slashes to the basket well, can make the highlight reel, has improved to an exemplary level defender and rebounder at the position. He also shows to carry himself like a leader and makes improvements to his game.

Shumpert can play PG but is not natural, his shot selection can be reckless and settles for jumpers too often. As the star of his team he tried to do too much at times and didn’t win as much as you like to be a top level prospect.

I think Shumpert is a good 2nd round pick that can make a lot of teams from day 1. I think he has the character to transition from team star to dependable role player especially if he stays focused on defense. He still needs to work on outside shooting and play in the flow of the offense and pick his spots.
