2011 Draft Profile - Kenneth Faried

This guy is a great story, a long shot prospect from a rough background goes to a small school and shines taking them to the big stage of the NCAA tournament. He shows a phenomenal effort on the floor and has a good demeanor about him. To go along with the feel good story Faried is a legit prospect. Faried is the best rebounder college basketball has seen in years. Calling him an aggressive player is a huge understatement. Kenneth has the mentality and body to be a force around the basket or anywhere on the court for that matter. At 6ft8 and a chiseled 225lbs, Faried plays with a ton of explosion, he gets off the ground quickly, with good body control, and tremendous strength, rarely does he get his hand on the ball and not control it. He also has good fundamentals and the will that a rebounder needs. Offensively he does not have a lot of polish, but with his will and athleticism he is an efficient finisher down low and finds a way to get buckets from offensive rebounding and running the floor on fast breaks. He seems to have the body and mentality to be a good screen setter in half court. Defensively he has great upside; ferocious, athletic, strong and willing to lock down his opponent. He also makes plays as a help defender, getting lots of blocks and steals.

Negatives for Faried will be his level of competition and lack of offensive polish. Looked at as a PF in the NBA but does not have ideal height and bulk. Doesn’t have go to moves in the paint, lacks an efficient mid range game and below average FT shooter.

Faried is a different prospect, and Dennis Rodman is a fitting comparison. He is a great athlete, but translates it more to rebounding, defense and hustle play rather than a one on one game or outside shooting. He may be an offensive liability in the NBA, but I believe a team that already has scoring will benefit greatly. Faried has the defense, desire and rebounding to make up for his offensive limitations. I wouldn’t be surprised if he starts for an NBA team right away and becomes a defensive and rebounding star.
