Trey ThompkinsHt/Wt: 6-9 / 247 lbs
2011 Draft Profile - Trey ThompkinsA well rounded prospect at 6ft 9 245lbs he has good size for the PF position, he is a good defender with good range on his jump shot. Highly regarded coming out of high school Trey has the blend of size, hands, touch and footwork that scouts like to go with good bloodlines. His shot blocking and steals numbers in college are impressive and with ideal PF size he shoots the ball and handles the ball well. Good feel for the game and will be just 21 at the end of summer.
Trey has the skill set of a lottery pick, but has not put it all together. Very similar to teammate and fellow early entry prospect Travis Leslie as he regressed slightly his jr year and underachieved as far as team success. Some ownership needs to go on his coach for both of these prospects to underachieve individually and from a team perspective. His size is great but he is pudgy, and not as aggressive or dominant down low as he should be. As a player he needs more conditioning and discipline. He is talented, but not talented enough to get by in the NBA unless he starts working hard and puts it all together.
The talent is there to be a productive NBA player no doubt, but under-achievers in college are NBA busts. He needs a veteran presence or a coach to reach him. Best case scenario is he goes late 1st round to a team with a winning environment that will develop him. His talent is unique enough to where he can be replaced quickly, but if he has a successful career that will not surprise me either because like I said, he has the talent.
