2012 Draft Profile - Andre Drummond

Drummond is a beast down low. He is a long 6 ft 10 and carries 270lbs very well for a teenager, which that alone can get you drafted in the top 3 of virtually any NBA draft (see Michael Olowakandi). Drummond is part of the dying breed of natural back to the basket big men who owns the painted area. His greatest strength is combining ideal size and length with elite athleticism and tenacity which allow him to dominate on defense and on the boards. Andre also shows a good feel for the game as a passer and runs the floor well. Drummond also shows the conditioning to be able to play long minutes at center.

Negatives are that his offense is still developing, as well as foul trouble concerns and not being too emotional on the floor. On his size and skills alone he should have no problem being a starting NBA center, but to be worth a top 3 pick and not be labeled as a bust he will need to work at staying healthy (which isn’t a given for big men), and focused and improving to where he will not be a liability at the offensive end.

Drummond has received comparisons to Dwight Howard which is credible based on his enormous wingspan, size and athleticism. Time will tell if he has the drive to improve his weaknesses and reach his elite all star potential or if he will settle with what he is blessed with and bust a la Kwame Brown.
