2012 Draft Profile - Arnett Moultrie

Arnett Moultrie is a 6'11" 230 pound junior forward from Mississippi State University. Moultrie spent his freshman and sophomore season's playing at Utep, but decided to move on to Mississippi State prior to his junior year. After sitting out 1 season Moultrie's numbers improved drastically in almost every facet of his game, going from; 9.8 PPG to 16.9, 6.7 REBS to 10.5, 65%FT to 78%, 22%3PT to 44%, and 47%FG to 54%. In the 2011-12 season Moultrie led the SEC in rebounding(9th in Div 1), and finished in the top 5 in PPG and FG % on his way to earning 1st team All SEC honors.

Moultrie's offensive game is very smooth, and includes the ability to face up, post up, run pick and roll, pick and pop , and step out as far as the three point line on occasion. Moultrie only attempted 18 three's on the year, but has good looking form on his jumper and there's no reason to think he can't make the 3 ball a bigger part of his repertoire if he continues to work at it. On the post he relies on his quickness and athleticism; he utilizes a number of spin moves, up and under moves, and a turn around jumper. Moultrie does need to add some muscle to improve the power aspect of his post game, and also to help him finish through contact better.

On defense, Moultrie plays hard and is active, but tends to take some bad angles. His activity along with those bad angles, and being overzealous at times leads to bad fouls; this goes hand and hand with a need to improve his body control. Moultrie is lacking in strength on the boards, but more than makes up for it with his length, timing and will. When a shot goes up he does a good job of looking to put a body on someone, and is also good at chasing down long rebounds. If he adds strength to his base and upper body he could end up being one of the better rebounders at the next level.

Most draft projections say Moultrie will be drafted somewhere between the mid teens to early twenties. NBA Comparison: Compares favorably to Rashard Lewis, with better rebounding skills.
