2012 Draft Profile - Eric Griffin

Eric Griffin may be unknown to many, but to others he is known by the poster that he created against North Carolina A & T here http://youtu.be/WLNrnRT4nps. He has freakish athleticism and length (6'8 - 7'1" wingspan), which was a major reason why he averaged 2.5 blocks per game to go along with his 16 point and 8 rebounds per contest. Offensively, he can play with his back to the basket, face up and go around the opposition with his quickness, or step out and hit either a mid-range jump shot or a three pointer! Defensively, he is very long, has great anticipation, and is quick to the basketball which allows him to block shots and get his hand in the passing lane. He would be a defensive nightmare for perimeter players in the NBA! On the other hand, to play in the post, he will need to bulk up substantially to handle the physical rigors of the NBA.

Griffin's best performances were in big games against better competition. Against Iowa, he was the best player on the floor ending the game with 23 points, 13 rebounds, and 6 blocked shots. Moreover, against #25 Creighton and Doug McDermott, Eric scored 29 points, had 14 rebounds, and added 2 steals. Also, at the more recent Portsmouth Invitational that took place in April this year, Griffin had a solid showing averaging 11.7 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 2 blocks per game.

Eric Griffin could be the best athlete in the draft! There are parts of his game that need to be sharpened and worked on, but after playing organized basketball for roughly 5 years, he is a raw talent with huge upside potential!
