2012 Draft Profile - J'Covan Brown
Brown has been an up and down presence for Rick Barnes Longhorns. A shoot first point guard, who often has played the role of shooting guard, Brown will need to refine his passing game a bit before making the rotation at the NBA level. What Brown does bring is uncanny shooting ability. While he often forces shots, and this knocks down his statistical numbers, he is a genuine scoring threat from anywhere on the court. At only (barely) 6'1", Brown has the compensatory quickness needed to get around defenders. Not an elite leaper by any means, he does possess an electric first step and great handle. Defensively, its a mixed bag. He has shown flashes of real ability on defense, but just as often has gone to sleep in games. Texas players under the Barnes regime often lack some of the fundamentals other programs provide - and Brown is a perfect example. But come time for personal work outs you can expect Brown's stock to rise. Early second round is not unreasonable in a point guard starved class. Brown has all the physical attributes, plus a superior shooting skill set....its just going to take him a bit of time.Player profile submitted by: John Steppling
