2012 Draft Profile - Moe Harkless

Moe is one of the better prospects coming from NYC in the last few years, and was possibly the best freshman performer in the nation’s most competitive conference. At 6ft8 210lbs he is a smooth athlete, very much a SG game in a SF body. As a SF should be Moe’s game is very versatile, he can play at up tempo or in the half court and can impact a game in a number of way. Moe has a good burst, when he gets a crease to the basket he is going to take it to the goal and finish strong. Moe plays with great athleticism but also did a terrific job of playing under control as a star freshman playing long minutes and being leaned on as the top player. For only 18 years of age Moe has a really nice feel for the game and has developed nice mid range game where he can pull up off the bounce and make jumpers consistently and does a good job of converting difficult shots around the hoop. Moe does a good job making things happen on and off the ball, it is rare to find an 18 year old with as much polish as he has. Not to mention Moe was a productive rebounder and strong defender as well.

Moe has a nice looking shot but his 3p% was only 21% so he is going to have some work to do before he is given the green light in the NBA. Because he is so versatile, Moe doesn’t have an area to his game that really stands out, so it could be seen that he does many things good without doing any one thing great. The same was said of Brandon Roy, which only time will tell if it is a fair assessment, as it turned out Roy did many things very well in the NBA. It will be a pretty big transition for Moe to go from star player in college to likely a rookie role player in the NBA.

Moe is going to be a really good pick for anyone in the mid 1st round or later. He reminds me a lot of Paul George with his versatility and I predict like George it will not take him long to crack a starting lineup and should have a nice career.
