2012 Draft Profile - Royce White

Royce White is a versatile point forward who can enforce his will, finish in the paint, and rebound like a big man along with the agility, passing, and handles of a guard. White also has a solid face up and post up game. Royce is coming off stellar performances in rounds 2 and 3 of the NCAA Tournament against UConn and Kentucky, respectively. These performances more than likely boosted his decision to forgo his final two years of eligibility at Iowa State on March 21st. Throughout the season, Royce proved he could hang with other likely lottery picks in this years draft. Putting up 23pts/9reb vs. Kentucky's Anthony Davis, 15pts/13rebs against UConn's Andre Drumond, avg 18pts/13rebs vs. Kansas's Thomas Robinson, and avg 13pts/8rebs on Baylor's Perry Jones III. White was also the only player to lead his team in all 5 major statistical categories, putting up a stat line of 13.4 PPG, 9.3 RPG, 5.0 APG, 1.2 SPG, 0.9 BPG.

White also comes along with a number of weaknesses. One of the main ones is his anxiety disorder which become public as the season went along. NBA teams could shy away as his medication that he takes for it releases adrenaline when it senses an attack. This adrenaline can make Royce very exhausted. And since Royce has a fear of flying, an attack will most likely occur while on the plane. This would not be good for an NBA player that travels a lot. He was quoted as saying during his announcement of entering the NBA Draft that "I only drove to those games so I would feel fresh for my teams, I wanted to be %100. It's not so much a fear of flying, it's just that it can sometimes bring me down to 80-85%."

On the court Royce has some glaring weaknesses as well. His 49% FT% haunted him all season. He also has yet to develop a consistent jumper, especially from outside the 3pt arch. Also, being the Point Forward, Royce averaged almost 4 TOPG. Sometimes Royce tries to do to much or make a pass that is next to impossible.
