2012 Draft Profile - Will Barton

Will Barton is entering the draft after spending two seasons at Memphis and improving himself in virtually every statistical category from year one to year two. He has a wiry build standing at 6'6" and weighing 175 pounds, and has a frame that should be able to take on extra weight without affecting his speed or quickness.

Barton's offensive statistics went up across the board from his freshman season. He was able to raise his free throw shooting 5%(69 to 74), his three point shooting 8%(26 to 34), his field goal shooting 8%(42 to 50), and his scoring from 12.3 to 18. Barton has become an effective spot up shooter from behind the college arc, his range from the NBA distance could be a bit questionable. Barton is good moving off the dribble, navigating through traffic, and scoring at the rim with an array of shots. Barton's mid range offense is mostly comprised of floater shots he uses off the dribble, which he's become very accurate with. He has good leaping ability and is also good moving baseline without the ball for alley oops and back door plays.

Defensively, Barton is a good team defender, who moves with good movement laterally and eats up ground quick closing out on shooters. Barton is good rebounder for his size and position averaging 8 boards a game, up from the 4.9 he averaged as a freshman. Barton also finished in the top 10 in steals in the Conference USA back to back years with a 1.4 average last season.

Will Barton can definitely contribute to an NBA team in year 1 with his athleticism, effort and skill level. If he continues to work at his game, as he's shown the will and motivation to do, he could turn into an all-star caliber player one day. NBA Comparison: Andre Iguodala.
