2013 Draft Profile - Ray McCallum
McCallum chose to stay at Detroit and play for his coach father. The results are probably indicitive of this being a wise decision. McCallum is a highly intelligent point guard, sound in all of his mechanics, and blessed with plus quickness and great handle. At 6'2" he has decent size for the position, though clearly he needs to continue to add muscle. There is a touch of Rondo to McCallum's game, and attitude. His confidence and court vision is off the charts. The negatives have to do with his ability to finish, a result of lack of strength and only average leaping ability. Defensively he always in the right place even if he doesnt have elite physical attributes. Guys like McCallum usually end up very good pro players. He knows the game, he has total confidence bordering on arrogance, and his ball handling is so superior that one suspects he could be the steal of the early second round. He may not ever be a plus shooter, but he's not a liability either, and his shot certainly isn't broken. McCallum's intangibles are what set him apart, and he projects as a high end back up point guard in the NBA.Player profile submitted by: John Steppling
