2013 Draft Profile - Tony Mitchell
Mitchell is a unique talent and in a somewhat unique situation playing for a small school program. Nobody is going to be talking about North Texas if Tony Mitchell were not playing there. Mitchell is a freakishly talented athlete. His has extraordinary length, coupled to a phenomenal quickness and explosivness. In one sense he reminds one of Kenneth Faried, another small program freak athlete who surprised people with his quickness. There are lots of guys Mitchell's size, but few with his quick feet and hops. Mitchell will be seen as an NBA four, much as Faried plays that position... meaning somewhat unorthadox. Mitchell has good though maybe not great instincts as a shot blocker, but that figures to keep improving. His ability to get to the ball and finish in close make him an elite prospect. Not playing regularly against top competition is going to cause some GMs to pause during the lottery process, but I expect Mitchell to clearly be a top ten pick, if not top five. One can expect the private workout phase of the draft process to cause Mitchell's stock to rise. There are simply few prospects who combine his gifts in one package.Player profile submitted by: John Steppling
