2014 Draft Profile - Bogdan Bogdanovic

Strengths:
Possessing ideal size and length to play both the shooting guard and small forward position, Bogdanovic is one of the more skilled international prospects we have seen in a while. Questions about when he would come to the NBA are the main thing keeping him from rising on draft boards.

An injury to starting point guard Leo Westermann forced Bogdanovic to become the primary ballhandler, and he thrived in an increased role showcasing excellent court vision and a knack for finding teammates.

Where he really thrives offensively is a slasher off the ball. He has excellent awareness, and his size and underrated strength allow him to finish very well through contact. But he can also make you pay from deep possessing NBA range.

Defensively, his length and instincts make him excellent at reading passing lanes to come up with steals. He also has quick feet and has shown the ability to keep players in front of him. He could have the ability to guard three positions in the NBA.

Weaknesses:
Bogdanovic isn’t a great one-on-one player. He lacks explosiveness and a top notch first step. If he starts off with a step on a defender he is difficult to guard, but against a set defender he struggles to create space on a regular basis.

He doesn’t necessarily excel in any one area, the epitome of a combo guard. He can distribute when needed, but shouldn’t be a full-time point guard. However, he lacks the elite scoring ability of a two-guard.

His jump shot, while possessing range, can be streaky at times, especially when shooting off the dribble. He could also use a little work in pick-and-roll situations. Defensively he has some good tools, but can lose focus at times and may struggle against the quicker guards of the NBA.

For a team in the late first or early second round he could be a steal as he can do a number of things to help a team win, but may not come over immediately. Someone like Francisco Garcia would seem to be an ideal comparison, as a glue guy who can contribute in a number of ways. But with some more development he could be far greater.
