Position: PG
Team: Iowa St.
Class: Senior

2014 Draft Profile - DeAndre Kane

Strengths:
Kane has the ability to play both guard positions in the NBA and has already shown that he can excel both on and off the ball. He is extremely quick with the ball and his ability to push the ball in transition and finish or draw a foul is one of his best qualities.

He has a very solid build, which allows him to get to his spots on the floor where he feels most comfortable. He excels at generating contact and finishing through the contact, and really improved as a point guard in his senior season, raising his assists while lowering his turnovers.

Defensively, his speed and size make him very good on that end. He can keep quicker players in front of him, and uses his strength to keep guys out of the paint. He is also a very good rebounder for his size.

Very few players have the all-around game of Kane. He can score, defend, rebound, and was the leader of a very good Iowa State team. With teams looking for versatile players who excel in transition, Kane could fill a role on any team.

Weaknesses:
The first thing that stands out for Kane is his lack of shooting. He will need to improve his consistency from deep, and he struggled from college three-point range, so moving back to NBA range could be an issue.

Even his free throw shooting is less than desirable, which is disappointing considering how good he is at getting to the line.

While he is a good on-ball defender, he can get lost when off the ball, often losing focus and being susceptible to backdoor cuts. He also struggles to get through screens regularly and teams will surely take advantage of that issue.

He is also much older than most prospects, limiting his ceiling. He will be 25 in June, so his great numbers in his senior year could be the product of playing against younger, less developed players.

A versatile guard, who excels in transition, Kane could carve out a niche with the right team, as an off-the-bench guard who can fill in wherever needed. Everyone can’t be stars, but Kane could be very useful.
