2013 Draft Profile - James McAdoo

McAdoo certainly has the bloodlines to draw huge interest from basketball scouts and fans, as well the skill set and athletic prowess to be a regular on high light reels. At a long 6ft 8 225lbs coming out of high school James is a hybrid on the floor. He has enough size and strength to hold his own down low and athleticism to slash to the hoop from the perimeter or open court. His greatest strength is probably attacking the basket and finishing even when the lane is crowded. He is going to a good school, sound fundamentals and good character are also checks when analyzing McAdoo and his dominant performance on the hs all star circuit solidify that he is a top flight prospect with a high ceiling. Has all the characteristics to be a good defender.

So far in his development McAdoo has relied on raw ability to dominate but at the next levels he needs to refine his game on the perimeter or on the post to have a true position that he can play at a high level and reach his potential. In the NBA McAdoo is probably more of a SF and may struggle with turnovers. He will need to work on ball handling and outside shooting.

Athletically, McAdoo and Terrence Jones are similar and probably the most athletically gifted prospects in the draft. McAdoo could develop to a 6ft 9 250lb specimen in a few years. Some have said that McAdoo has elite tools with an old school game and compare his potential to James Worthy which is fair and very exciting if he is on your team. Another versatile prospect, McAdoo can compare to Al Harrington, JJ Hickson, Luol Deng or a number of other good NBA players. I wouldn’t say he will be an elite super star but he has a high floor projection and I see him as a possible perennial all star and #2 option and defensive threat for a contending team.
