2015 Draft Profile - Aleksandar Vezenkov

Strengths:
At the age of 19, Vezenkov is a young and talented offensive player that is becoming more lethal, the more he plays. At 6-foot-8, he possesses the size to transition into the NBA, filled with more talented and bigger-bodied forwards. With size like this, not only can he play small forward, but he may also be able to play some stretch-4.

Vezenkov can score from anywhere on the floor. He is especially deadly shooting from three with deep range and great shot selection. This past season he scored over 18 points a game and shot 40 percent from three. If nothing else, he'll be able to contribute as a shooter immediately.

Vezenkov also has excellent court vision for a player his size. He's an underrated passer who always looks to get others involved to create better shot opportunities. Overall, he has a high basketball IQ despite playing at a young age overseas. He knows how to take advantage of defenders closing out too hard because of his shooting.

Weaknesses:
While his offensive game is intriguing, his defense needs a lot of work. He lacks the lateral quickness and overall athleticism to guard his position. Struggling to keep players in the Greek league in front of him is not a good sign when thinking about him trying to keep up with NBA wings.

Most struggle trying to figure out exactly what position Vezenkov will guard in the NBA. Not only is he not quick enough to keep up with wings, but he's not strong enough to guard true big men either. He will need to add strength to be able hang down low with the NBA-caliber bigs.

Offensively Vezenkov will need to improve his ball-handling so that he can consistently get to the basket and not be strictly a jump shooter. But defense is where he will need to figure everything out as that will be the difference in him becoming a reliable NBA player.
