Bobby PortisHt/Wt: 6'11" / 231 lbs
2015 Draft Profile - Bobby PortisStrengths
Bobby Portis is a prototypical power forward with excellent size and strength for the position. He has a versatile game that allows him to shine in just about every facet.
Offensively Portis has excellent touch around the rim and his strength allows him to score through contract and he has the ability to finish with either hand down low. He also has a very consistent mid-range game and has stretched his range out to the college three-point line.
Defensively, his strength allows him to hold his position and he can challenge shots due to his length. He has decent mobility as well, and good hands that allow him to come up with steals at times. He is a solid rebounder who has been one of the most consistent double-double players in the country.
Because his outside game has improved to the extent it has, Portis can have a tendency to fall in love with his perimeter game at times, which hurts his efficiency, and ability to crash the offensive glass.
His athleticism is only average. He is not slow by any means, but when compared to the likes of Cauley-Stein or Towns he does not measure up.
Offensively, he still needs some polish on his inside game. He has shown the potential to be a good scorer but needs to develop some more consistent post moves.
NBA Player Comparison
Portis won’t be a star, but has the chance to be a very good role player. His combination of skills is similar to that of Terrence Jones of the Houston Rockets. He can score, rebound, and do a solid job on defense and still has room to grow.
He has been one of the most consistent players in all of college basketball and once teams start getting into the late lottery and teens, it will be hard to pass on a talent like Portis.
