2015 Draft Profile - Cedi Osman
StrengthsAt six-foot-six, Cedi Osman is one of the biggest point guards in the draft and knows how to use his size to his advantage. He is a very skilled playmaker with the ability to create better shot opportunities for everyone around him.
He also has a remarkable combination of speed and athleticism, two attributes that are seen quite often in the NBA nowadays in a very guard-talented league. Although looking at his height one may think he may transition to shooting guard in the NBA, Osman is a legitimate point guard.
He can drive and dish to find the open man and can also take it to the whole with his speed. Osman also has great anticipation skills and can read defenses very well. As a scorer, Osman uses his crafty footwork and effective hesitation moves to get into the lane on a regular basis.
Weaknesses
Although Osman has a size for his position, he struggles to finish shots around the rim. He shies away from contact at times which could be attributed to either a lack of strength, or in the eyes of some, toughness. His ability to get to the basket is nullified if he can't finish once he gets there.
Osman also comes into the draft as an average defender and relies too much on height advantage and wingspan to bail him out. In the NBA, he wont be as successful with this and will have to improve on using his feet to keep opponents in front of him.
Lastly, Osman needs to improve his perimeter shooting ability. As a ball-dominant player, he struggles shooting from the outside, especially off-the-dribble. His shooting mechanics aren't great and he will need to improve there first if he ever plans on becoming reliable from the outside.
