2015 Draft Profile - Daniel Diez

Strengths
With the ability to stretch the floor with his shooting ability, Diez can translate his game into the NBA as a stretch power forward, commonly seen in today’s league, although listed as a small forward. He also possesses a high motor and excellent toughness - something rarely brought in by international pro-spects. Defensively, he is a strong rebounder and cleans up often on the offensive boards. This past season, Diez averaged a solid 12.5 points and 7.1 rebounds per game for San Sebastian. At 6’9”, he has good size at the wing and is improving offensively by not settling for so many outside shots. He understands spacing better now and runs the floor with more of a purpose – which may be credited to the high basketball IQ he possess-es.

Weaknesses
On the downside, Diez is a below-average athlete with limited lateral quickness. Although he can shoot from outside, his offensive repertoire is stagnant since he is a below-the-rim jumper and finisher. He needs to add his sense of toughness when attacking the rim to become more of a threat offensively. Although being 6’9”, he doesn’t have great length with a wingspan of only 6’6”. If drafted in the second round, Diez looks like a low-risk, high-reward player that could help a team in need of a small/power forward.
