2015 Draft Profile - Guillem Vives

Strengths
After declaring and then renouncing his decision to enter the 2014 NBA Draft, Vives has once again decided to take his talents into the draft as part of the 2015 class. Standing at 6’4”, he has great size for the position and the great thing about Vives is that he’s a true point guard – with excellent playmaking abilities that gets everybody in the offense involved. However, along with this, he can also get to the basket and finish at a high rate – something that isn’t common with international prospects. Vives is coming off an out-standing season playing for Joventuts, leading the way as their starting point guard and even winning the ‘Best Young Player’ award over top-five prospect Kristaps Porzingis and 2013 second-round pick Alex Abrines, among others.

Weakneses
Although possessing good size and playmaking abilities, Vives lacks elite athleticism that we constantly see with NBA point guards today. This is something that can cause problems for the young Spaniard, as most guards in the league have the ability to blow by their defender and finish strong at the basket. For Vives to have a chance in the NBA, he’s going to have to get better defen-sively, while learning to adjust to the fast pace of the NBA. He also has to get tougher at both ends of the floor, as he’ll play against bigger and tougher opponents than he’s played with in the past.
