2015 Draft Profile - Justin Anderson

Strengths
Justin Anderson has one of the most NBA-ready bodies in this entire draft class. His best attribute is his ability to defend. He has excellent mobility, lateral quickness, athleticism, and strength to defend multiple positions and playing for Virginia means he takes pride on that end.

He has the ability to be a lockdown defender at the next level as he plays with tenacity on that end of the floor. He is good at getting through screens and his speed allows him to recover on shooters.

Offensively, Anderson is a terror in transition using his speed, strength, and athleticism to finish through and over defenders. Anderson has also vastly improved his shooting in his junior year, which had been his biggest weakness. He is also a willing passer and has shown the ability to find the open man.

Weaknesses
Anderson is still more of a spot-up shooter offensively at this point. His ball-handling is average at best and he struggles to create for himself off the dribble, especially in the halfcourt.

There are also worries that his improved shooting is more of an aberration this season. After shooting around 30 percent from deep in his first two seasons, Anderson is now hovering around 50 percent from three-point range, a massive jump.

Overall, scouts would still like to see more consistency from Anderson, that, however isn’t going to happen this year as he had surgery on a fractured finger and could miss the rest of the year.

NBA Player Comparison
Assuming Anderson can continue to keep up his shooting at the NBA-level, he could have a similar role to someone like Demarre Carroll. He has the physical tools and defense will definitely be his calling card.

Wing players like Anderson who can lock down on defense and hit open jumpers are exactly the kinds of guys scouts are looking for these days. Anderson could easily carve out a long term role in the NBA.
