Larry Nance
Ht/Wt: 6' 9" / 227 lbs
Position: PF
Team: Wyoming
Class: Senior

2015 Draft Profile - Larry Nance

Strengths
Nance is a long and versatile big man standing at 6’9” with a solid 227-pound frame. Along with this, Nance is one of the most athletic and explosive players in this class and was known as one of the highflying dunkers throughout his college career. He excels playing down low in the post and and uses his size, athleticism, and a 7’2 wingspan to finish strong at the rim. He also creates havoc defensively as a great shot-blocker and rim protector. Nance is constantly seen altering shots with his length and is a solid rebounder. He made All-MWC First Team and MWC All-Defensive Team and led his team to a MWC Championship along with Wyoming’s first NCAA tournament in 13 years.

Although Nance was sidelined after tearing his ACL his junior season, he steadily returned to his old self at the end of the season as an explosive dunker and shot-blocker after seeing it diminish when he first returned. Nance also took advantage of being invited to the NBA Draft Combine and may have turned enough heads to see his name called on draft night.

Weaknesses
As just mentioned, Nance’s torn ACL did slow him down when he re-turned his senior season - as a lot of what he does on both ends of the floor has to do with his athleticism and explosiveness. However, he’s young and has recovered well. With everything Nance did for Wyoming, one place where he did struggle was shooting the ball consistently. Although he doesn’t necessarily shoot a ton of outside shots, an outside game would benefit him as most NBA power forwards have now developed a solid mid-range game to add to their arsenal. When his jump shot is falling, however, Nance can be a very dangerous player to stop. He also needs to get better at creating shots off-the-dribble, one of his more significant weak-nesses coming into the draft. Even in the post, he has a tendency of only using simple drop steps and wild turnaround jumpers. In pick-and-roll situations, Nance struggles receiving the ball out of the screen and hesi-tates to make a play, losing all momentum of the play.
