2015 Draft Profile - Pat Connaughton

Strengths
Connaughton is a tough, physical wing player that was one of the most efficient role-players in the country. Playing alongside Notre Dame’s Jerian Grant and sophomore Demetrius Jackson, Con-naughton excelled at playing off-the-ball and learned how to be efficient by being at the right spot when called upon. He’s an excellent shooter with range that stretches well beyond the three-point line, a skillset that could instantly be useful coming off the bench at the next level. He shot an efficient 42.3 percent from three this past season and has seen his game develop over his four years at Notre Dame. For being an undersized small for-ward, Connaughton is a good rebounder (snagged 7.4 a game), and makes up for his lack of size with a com-bination of athleticism and toughness as evidenced by his 44 inch max vertical that he posted at the NBA Draft Combine.

After being ranked 71 in ESPN’s draft board in May, Connaughton has made a name for himself as of late with a terrific draft combine and could see himself going in the early to mid second round.

Weaknesses
Despite his intangibles, Connaugton is still seen as an undersized small forward at only 6’5”. He also isn’t particularly quick laterally as he has trouble guarding quick forwards who possess a good first step and above-average athleticism. His spot up shooting spaces the floor great, but Connaughton can get caught being lackadaisical when other guards start being ball-dominant. He may see him-self playing the 2 in the NBA, so he needs to work on creating his own shot as well as attacking the basket more. Along with this, Connaughton has to get others involved as well, as he only averaged 1.5 assists this past season, a statistic that dropped from 3.0 his junior year.
