2015 Draft Profile - RJ Hunter
Strengths:One of the better shooters in this draft class, R.J. Hunter is an extremely intriguing prospect in the mid-to-late first round. Hunter is an excellent shooter with NBA-range who is especially dangerous on catch-and-shoot situations.
Not strictly spot-up shooter, Hunter has shown a solid ability to score in pick-and-roll situations and is also a willing passer with a very high basketball IQ.
He has sneaky quickness and is a capable ballhandler who can get his own shot off the dribble. He also has good size and length for the shooting guard position. His length allows him to be a pest on defense and come up with a decent number of steals.
Weaknesses:
Hunter is an average athlete at best. He will never rise above anyone and as such, must find some creative ways to finish around the rim against NBA-level defenders.
This also makes a difference on defense where he must prove that he can guard NBA-caliber wing players and keep them in front of him. He also lacks an NBA body which is more concerning considering he is a junior. He must put on some muscle or he could be bullied by the more physical NBA wings.
There is also the question of him coming from a small school and playing the best competition regularly. Though guys like Stephen Curry, Kawhi Leonard, and Damian Lillard have flourished recently, there will still be some questions considering Hunter is coming from a lower level conference.
