2016 Draft Profile - Chris LeVert

Strengths: Caris LeVert is one of the more difficult players to get a read on in this draft class. He is an extremely versatile player, capable of playing and guarding three positions. He can handle the ball and is a good shooter with deep range.

He is capable of operating in pick-and-roll situations and can get into the paint where he is equally adept at finishing at the rim or finding his open teammates. He is a very unselfish player who is constantly looking to make the right play.

Defensively he has a ton of potential. He has shown the ability to stay in front of point guards at the college level and has the size to guard other positions, though he will need to get stronger to be more effective against NBA wings. His length and quick hands allow him to come up with a number of steals both on and off the ball.

Weaknesses: For all of LeVert’s potential and versatility, there are some serious concerns with LeVert making the transition to the NBA. First and foremost is his body, which is very thin and weak. His ability to guard NBA wings is in question as he lacks the strength to bang with those guys.

Offensively, he must improve his ability to shoot off-the-dribble as his percentages drop immensely from his spot-up numbers. As someone who has the ball in his hand a lot, off-the-dribble efficiency is major.

He also may be a bit too unselfish for his own good. He is passive by nature and when Michigan needed him to step into a lead role last season, he struggled with the transition before being injured, which is another worry.

LeVert has had to have two separate surgeries on his left foot for a stress reaction and fracture in the last year. If he can’t shake that injury-prone label, it will put a serious dent in his draft stock.
