2016 Draft Profile - Chinanu Onuaku
Strengths : Even though he is heading into his sophomore season at Louisville, Onuaku is still very young, not turning 19 until November. He has a ton of potential as a defender and shot blocker, with room to grow offensively.Defensively he is a terror thanks to his size, length, and quickness. He has the strength to battle on the low block and is an excellent weakside shot blocker. He also has the quickness to step out on the perimeter and the anticipation to come up with steals in the passing lanes.
He is a great finisher at the basket, going up with authority. His biggest strength on offense is his work on the glass, however. He is an outstanding offensive rebounder who is relentless on the boards.
Weaknesses : For all of his potential due to his physical tools, Onuaku is still very raw when it comes to the skill portions of the game. His offensive game is almost non-existant and consists strictly of assisted finishes, and putbacks after offensive rebounds.
He currently has no go-to moves on the low block and his footwork is lacking. Additionally, he is not a great passer from the post so it is hard to rely on him on that end of the floor.
There have been questions about maintaining his intensity level, especially with an increased role as he is expected to see at Louisville this season. As with many players developing offensively, he is a terrible free throw shooter.
