Position: PF/C
Team: Vanderbilt

2016 Draft Profile - Damian Jones

Strengths: Damian Jones is far from the most polished product in this draft, especially amongst big men. His size and physical gifts, however, make him a tantalizing prospect if he is able to develop and fulfill his potential.

Jones’ size is obviously a plus as he is a legit seven footer. He is mobile for his size and an excellent athlete with the ability to control the boards and protect the rim. He plays with high energy, which makes a big difference for someone with his physical gifts.

Offensively he is still a work in progress, but he is a strong finisher at the rim. He has shown some flashes of a developing post game during the summer, improving his ability to finish in different ways including turnaround and mid-range jumpers, and jump hooks.

Weaknesses: As was stated earlier, Jones is a project, especially offensively. He must prove that he can score consistently and work on his post game. He has looked improved in summer camps, but will have to show more development in his junior season.

His lack of basketball IQ also shows itself on the defensive end as he can get lost especially off the ball on that end. He also isn’t especially aggressive on that end both as a rim protector and rebounder.

Overall, Jones just lacks some feel and instincts for the game. As a junior, some will wonder how much he can grow, but his size and physical attributes make him attractive. If his skills catch up, he will be a great big man.
