2016 Draft Profile - DeAndre Bembry

Strengths : Bembry is one of the most versatile players in this entire draft class as there is very little he can’t do on either end of the floor. As someone who can fill a number of holes on offense, and guard multiple positions on defense, he is quickly rising in this draft.

Bembry’s best attribute offensively is probably his passing ability as he has a high basketball IQ and great court vision. He also has a number of ways he can put the ball in the basket for himself. He is great in transition, but is also effective in the half court.

He is able to operate both on and off the ball, understanding how to get to his spots and is a great finisher at the rim. He is capable of operating from the post and is rarely gets sped up or rushed.

Defensively Bembry has the size, length, and foot speed to guard just about any perimeter player. He shows great anticipation and timing in getting in passing lanes and coming up with blocks from the weak side as well.

Weaknesses : The biggest weakness for Bembry is his lack of a consistent jump shot. He was decent as a spot-up option, but really struggled shooting the ball off the dribble which could severely limit his ability to make plays consistently at the NBA level.

Despite having all of the tools defensively, he tended to lose focus at times on that end of the floor. He wasn’t always aggressive enough which is another problem in itself for Bembry.

Bembry didn’t really show a sense of urgency or killer instinct. Despite being capable of taking over most games he was in, he tended to blend in at times. Nonetheless, there is far more to like with Bembry than dislike as he has quickly become one of the more popular prospects.
