Dejounte Murray
Ht/Wt: 6' 5" / 170 lbs
Position: PG
Team: Washington
Class: Freshman

2016 Draft Profile - Dejounte Murray

Strengths: Dejounte Murray possesses all the physical tools that today's NBA point guards have: He's long (stands at 6'5" and has a 6'10 wingspan), athletic, explosive and has great speed. Aside from the physical tools, he's also an excellent ball-handler with tremendous versatility and is a creative playmaker when running the show at point guard.

His quickness allows him to excel at getting to the rim and he's great in the open floor. Murray is a good finisher and is crafty off-the-dribble, which allows him to play either guard position along with his size. He's very disciplined, especially when running the pick-and-roll, which is uncommon in young, athletic guards coming out of college.

What's great about the freshman is that he does it on both ends of the floor, using his size and length to help him defensively as a two-way player. He's a good individual defender and rebounds efficiently for a guard.

Weaknesses: As talented as Murray is, he vastly needs to reduce his number of bad plays and become a better decision maker on the floor. He has a tendency of being turnover prone as he tries to force plays from time to time.

Another key improvement the Seattle native must make to transition into the NBA is improving his three-point shooting as well as his overall shooting. He shoots a very low percentage from outside 10 feet which limits him offensively when teams play off of him and force him to shoot.

Weighing only about 170 pounds, Murray also needs to add strength to his body to help him finish off drives to the basket and remained balanced. Since he is indeed a combo guard, adding more strength will also help him matchup against bigger 2-guards, who will likely outweigh him on a nightly basis. He's a work in progress, but at age 19, he's already surprised many NBA scouts as he wasn't highly recruited heading into college.
