2016 Draft Profile - Demetrius Jackson

Strengths: Demetrius Jackson was someone who was rising on draft boards last year, but decided to return to Notre Dame. Now without backcourt mate Jerian Grant, Jackson has the team to himself and the chance to show that he’s the top point guard in this class.

Jackson has an NBA body and is strong for his size. He is very quick and able to get by his man one-on-one in most situations. He is a true pass-first point guard who makes his teammates better. He has a high basketball IQ and makes great decisions with the ball. He is also a capable three-point shooter.

He is very active on defense as well. His quickness and wingspan allow him to come up with his fair share of steals on that end, and he works very hard to hound opposing guards.

Weaknesses: One major cause for concern for Jackson is his lack of height. Most point guards in the NBA are at least 6’3 or 6’4 and while Jackson’s wingspan helps make up for his lack of height somewhat, it is still a concern that he stands only 6’1.

His three-point shot is good, but there are some questions as to whether he can continue his efficiency at the deeper NBA range. Showing more consistency will only help his stock.

He has also shared the backcourt with Jerian Grant and thus hasn’t been able to run a team on his own the last two seasons. He will have to prove that he can be that lead guard without someone else to lean on.
