2016 Draft Profile - Diamond Stone

Strengths: As the NBA has more or less moved away from traditional low-post big men, Jahlil Okafor was looked at as a throwback in the 2015 draft. This year’s version of Okafor is Diamond Stone, who possesses many of the same skills that made Okafor a top-3 pick last year.

Stone is a space-carving center who has excellent low post moves. He physical on the low block, but possesses excellent foot work and a soft touch around the rim. Where he differs from Okafor is his perimeter game where his jumper can stretch all the way out to the three-point line.

He is a very strong rebounder and a willing passer out of the post as well. Defensively, he is a solid shot blocker and is difficult to push around down low.

Weaknesses: Much like Okafor, Stone lacks elite athleticism and that hurts him, especially on the defensive end. He is unable to chase guards on the perimeter and that ability is something teams look for in bigs these days.

He also doesn’t go all out at all times. He will need to improve his motor at the next level as he won’t be physically superior to everyone he goes up against. He will also need to improve the consistency on his perimeter game.
