2016 Draft Profile - Furkan Korkmaz

Strengths: Korkmaz is one of the more intriguing international prospects in this class. He is an outstanding shooter, especially when his feet are set and shot 45 percent from deep in the FIBA U-19 Championships.

He is also a solid ballhandler who is continuing to develop that skill. Some believe he will be able to play both guard positions as he is a very unselfish player who is willing to make the extra pass. His quick first step allows him to get into the paint and he is capable of finishing over the defense with floaters, or dishing to an open teammate.

He is also an underrated athlete who has shown flashes of that in transition. Defensively he does a great job of getting into the passing lanes and disrupting the offense.

Weaknesses: Like most prospects who are his age, Korkmaz needs to develop more physically. Some wonder if his body will ever fill out as it hasn’t changed much over the past two years.

This lack of physicality hurts Korkmaz on both ends of the floor as he struggles to finish in traffic and usually settles for floaters and mid-range jumpers instead of attacking the rim.

His ballhandling is still a work in progress though he is improving in that aspect. He also needs to improve his defensive fundamentals as his lack of those, combined with his questionable physicality and toughness hurt him on that end.
