2016 Draft Profile - Ivica Zubac

Strengths : Ivica Zubac is very much a traditional center who has the physical tools to be a force in the NBA. His physical tools, along with his skill set, particularly around the rim, make him a very intriguing option.

Zubac has a pretty decent array of back-to-the-basket moves at his disposal at this time and is excellent at finishing down low. He has great touch and soft hands making him a good target for guards as he doesn’t drop many passes.

He also does a good job of crashing the offensive glass and has proven himself to be more than adequate as a target on the pick-and-roll when rolling to the rim. Overall he is a natural scorer with an impressive amount of tools for someone so young.

Weaknesses : Zubac lacks any sort of perimeter game at this time and rarely takes shots outside of the paint. While he shows some potential to develop that down the line as he is a solid free throw shooter, it is basically non-existent at this point.

The main concerns for Zubac however, come on the defensive end. He is not an explosive athlete or quick-footed so he has a difficult time switching out and guarding people on the perimeter.

Even more disturbing is the fact that he isn’t a great defensive rebounder or rim protector despite his great size. Perhaps in due time he could improve with more coaching, but it is a worry nonetheless as he has the tools to be effective, yet hasn’t done so. At only 19 years old, however, there is plenty of time for him to figure it out.
