2016 Draft Profile - Jarrod Uthoff

Strengths: After having a breakout senior season averaging nearly 19 points, 6.3 rebounds and 2.6 blocks per game, Jarrod Uthoff may have done enough to solidify himself as a late first round pick in this year’s NBA Draft.

The Iowa product is an athletic forward that can rebound, block shots and stretch the floor. He’s great at protecting the rim, he can guard multiple positions and has a tremendous ability to close out hard on shooters, which is what NBA scouts love about him.

Uthoff is also a good shooter that can hit from three-point land (shot 44.8 percent from the field and 38.2 percent from three) as many are predicting him of being a stretch forward when bumped up to the four spot.

With Uthoff continuing to improve and develop over time, he may be more NBA ready than the prototypical one and done players.

Weaknesses: Uthoff may be able to do a lot for a team on both ends, but one of the biggest concerns with his game is his overall lack of strength.

His thin body makes him play less aggressive than scouts would like, and he has a tendency of playing tentative when matched up with more physical defenders.

Another knock on Uthoff is the inconsistency in his offensive game – mostly knocking down open shots. He put up complete numbers across the stat sheet this past season for a small forward, but he has to keep improving on being consistent if he wants to succeed at the next level.
