2016 Draft Profile - Wade Baldwin IV

Strengths: Baldwin is a very intriguing guard prospect who has a lot of tools that are sure to excite NBA teams on both offense and defense.

Baldwin’s physical tools are the first things that stand out as he has the size, strength, and length to play both guard positions. He is an effective shooter with improving range and he sees the floor extremely well, consistently making plays for teammates.

Defensively he has excellent anticipation, which along with his length and speed, allow him to come up with a decent amount of steals. He moves his feet very well and has tons of potential on the defensive end.

Weaknesses: At this stage, Baldwin is a bit of a tweener. While he is a willing passer, his ball handling will need to improve if he is to play point guard full-time. He lacks some of the finer nuances such as changing speeds and direction that may come with more experience.

He also struggles to finish in the paint. He doesn’t draw many fouls when attacking the basket and isn’t the most explosive player which leads to tougher shots in the paint.

Defensively, he is great when engaged, but his focus is inconsistent. There have been times where he has simply been lazy on that end of the floor and he will need to bring effort on defense on a regular basis to realize his potential.
