2017 Draft Profile - Jarrett Allen
Strengths: Jarrett Allen’s size and athleticism has to be his biggest strength. He is just 18-years-old and is quickly approaching 7’ tall with a 7’5.5 wingspan. That allows him to be an outstanding rebounded and elite paint protector. It also allows him to finish at the rim with ease, as he is going to be a gem in the pick-and-roll game.
He has developed a solid midrange jump shot that expands past 12 feet, so not only do defenders have to respect him in the pick-and-roll, but also the pick-and-pop.
For someone with his size and length, he is actually pretty fast and runs the floor extremely well, something that will translate to the NBA game nicely.
Weaknesses: The big man does not display many offensive intangibles other than that he can dunk and hit a midrange jumper. He does not have any elite post moves, and when defenders pressure or double-team him he tends to panic and turn the ball over. With that, passing is another element of his offensive game that needs work.
He also, like most kids his age, still needs to add muscle mass, which will come with time. That will help him on the defensive end of the floor, where he does not often box out or block shots.
