Jayson Tatum
Ht/Wt: 6' 8" / 205 lbs
Position: SF
Team: Duke
Class: Freshman

2017 Draft Profile - Jayson Tatum

Strengths: Jayson Tatum has good size for the wing position. He already possesses a body frame built for the next level. He plays the game with more smoothness than explosiveness, but has the ability to finish around the rim nicely. He particularly likes to play more from mid-range, where he uses his footwork to get to the basket.

He is comfortable handling the ball and can change speeds while dribbling the ball up the court. Has the ability to create space for himself while the ball is in his hands that will definitely serve him well at the NBA level.

He possesses a variety of moves that help him including spin moves, up and unders, and turnaround jumpers. He also has a knack for making difficult shots off the dribble. His game is very polished for his age.

Weaknesses: Even though his offensive game is polished he tends to be a ball stopper at times, which makes him rely heavily on one-on-one isolations. He has a tendency to drive left on most occasions. If he wants to be a complete player he will need to earn how to finish with right hand.

Can be predictable at times. He likes to get the ball on the perimeter and drive left for a pull-up jump shot. He isn’t the most comfortable taking catch-and-shoot threes. If he can start knocking those shots down, teams will be salivating to select him.

He has room for improvement on the defensive end. He has the physical tools to be a great defender; it’s just a matter of how good he wants to be on that end of the floor. If he works hard he can be the perfect “three-and D” type player teams covet in today’s NBA.
