2017 Draft Profile - Josh Jackson
Strengths: Josh Jackson has a great combination of toughness, explosiveness, and passing ability for someone his size. He is able to cover a lot of ground on the defensive end because of his quickness and size. He possesses strong court vision that helps him find open teammates. His ability to move well without the ball serves him great as a cutter to the basket. When he does get the pass he doesn’t shy away from contact around the rim. He also has a good sense of body control when driving to the basket.
He is a great rebounder who likes to compete with others for the ball. On the defensive end he can chase shooters and likes the challenge of stopping his man. His good instincts and anticipation of the ball also serves him well.
Weaknesses: The most glaring weakness in Jackson’s game is his jump shot. His release is a little unorthodox that tends to look more like a ‘windup’. He will often turn down an open look for a tougher contested shot. He relies on his elevation to get his shot off.
His lack of strength is something he will need to address when he gets to the next level. Adding muscle will benefit him playing alongside grown men who are much stronger.
He also tends to get a bit emotional when he is on the court at times. Although exerting passion is great, it can get the best of him. If he wants to become a great player he will need to learn how to keep his emotions in check.
