2016 Draft Profile - Justin Jackson
Strengths: Justin Jackson is a very mature, polished player who plays within himself at all times. His calling card is his scoring ability as he knows how to get to his spots and can make shots from anywhere on the floor.Jackson understands how to attack the defense, especially when defenders close out too hard on him. He can get in the paint and is equally capable of finding open teammates as he is rising over defenders for mid-range jumpers that he makes at a high rate.
He is a very high IQ player who rarely forces shots and always seems to make the right play. Defensively he has potential to be adequate thanks to his height and length for the position.
Weaknesses: Jackson can potentially be decent on defense, but he will never be great on that end as his speed and athleticism is simply subpar. His frame lacks strength to be able to guard stronger small forwards, but he doesn’t have the quickness to keep players in front of him regularly.
There have also been question about his motor as he seems to go through stretches where he just isn’t a factor on the floor. That should never be the case for a player with his skill level.
While no one questions Jackson’s ability to shoot, he has lacked consistency when he gets closer to NBA three-point range. Overall he shot only 30 percent from deep as a freshman and he will need to be more than a mid-range shooter if he wants to make an impact in the NBA.
